Leon Wienbeck

Leon Wienbeck is a Junior Project Manager at Meo Carbon Solutions in Cologne, Germany. He holds a Bachelor’s degree in Agricultural Science and a Master’s degree in Crop Science at the University of Bonn, focusing especially on sustainable peat alternatives in growing media, specifically Miscanthus x giganteus. Joining Meo Carbon Solutions in October 2024, he works in the field of greenhouse gas accounting in the agricultural sector as well as the international certification system for sustainable peat substitutes and substrates HORTICERT.

HORTICERT is an international certification system that ensures ecological, social, and economic sustainability for peat substitutes and growing media. The Federal Ministry of Food and Agriculture (BMEL) has commissioned Meo Carbon Solutions GmbH with the development and implementation of the certification system. The project is funded by the BMEL based on a decision by the Federal German Parliament and is carried out under the direction of the Agency for Renewable Resources (Fachagentur für Nachwachsende Rohstoffe e.V. – FNR). Leon will give us an deeper insight into methology of sustainability assessment of growing media constituent regarding ecological and social aspects.
